As you may or may not know, im also an avid knitter!

As any horse person knows, the weather isn’t always on your side! Come rain or shine, you’re generally out in it. I’ve been wanting to make a cowl for a long time (I love a scarf, but I’m not a fan of the bulkiness and ends flapping around) but sometimes its just not practical. ‘The Roma Cowl’ -inspired by my pony Roma- the love of my life and source of my determination to keep going and get back close to, if not as fit as I was before illness. This cosy cowl will keep your neck warm while out and about, with the wildness and freedom of creeping vines and galloping horses hopefully inspiring you to keep moving forwards too!

If you make this Cowl, I’d love to see! Tag me on Instagram @underthewillowknits #theromacowl

This pattern is knitted from the top down in the round. I used the magic loop method on circular needles, however it would also work on Dpns. It doesn’t use much yarn at all so would be perfect for using up scraps. I have used size 2.75mm throughout to achieve an adult size cowl, although different needle sizes or adding/removing chart repeats would allow you to achieve a more variety of sizes. Removing charts could also allow for a child size!

I used 2.75mm needles throughout, however if you find your ribbing tends to be loose/ flare out, or you would rather the ribbing to be a little tighter, please adjust needle size accordingly for the ribbed sections e.g. 2.5mm.
